Former U.S. Navy Member Sentenced to 16 Years for Spying for China
In a major blow to U.S. national security, a former member of the United States Navy has been sentenced to nearly 16 years in federal prison for spying on behalf of China.
According to court documents, Jinchao Wei, a former U.S. Navy sailor, secretly provided classified military information, naval movement data, and sensitive defense-related intelligence to Chinese intelligence agencies over an extended period.
U.S. prosecutors stated that the leaked information had the potential to seriously endanger American military operations and national defense systems. The court described the act as a clear betrayal of trust and a direct threat to national security.
The U.S. Department of Justice said in a statement:
“This sentence reflects the seriousness of betraying the United States and compromising the safety of our armed forces.”
Security analysts believe this case highlights the growing intensity of U.S.–China intelligence rivalry, as Washington continues to strengthen counter-espionage measures.
🔴 The case is currently trending across major U.S. news networks and social media platforms.
